Progress Report: March 13

March 13th, 2008    Posted by: ArthritisQuest

Tomorrow afternoon I have my surgery, so I may not be able to post tomorrow. On the weight loss front, however, since I’m not allowed to eat after 6am, and I’m going to be drugged all day, I should be good to go on that front.

More after the break.

As I predicted yesterday, today was a very good day in terms of my diet. I woke up and had a cup of pineapple, and a grilled cheese sandwich (wheat bread) with tomato soup for lunch, but only ate half the soup. For dinner we went to Cheesecake Factory, and I shared a lettuce wraps with my family, and had the Chinese Chicken Salad (no dressing because I hate salad dressing taste, I used the sauces from the lettuce wraps instead), and ate most of it. I could eat those salads every day. I treated myself to some cake for dessert. The salad was a good one, romaine hearts, small slices of roasted chicken, some walnuts, some other kind of green (cabbage, I think), and mandarin oranges.

Eating well all day gave me a huge confidence boost. I woke up and ate a healthy start with the pineapple, and that made me feel good. I felt good all day knowing that dinner was going to be something both delicious and good for me. I think that’s something that is key in making sure you stick with healthy eating habits.

The funny thing is, my typical eating habits aren’t awful. I do like hamburgers, but I cook a lot of chicken at home, and I eat a lot of sauteed or stir-fried Thai food, and a lot of sushi. My biggest problem is portion control, so by getting big salads, I’m ensuring that I’m filling up on the lettuce, rather than the bad stuff.

When I get back to Washington, I’m probably going to be eating out more often than I normally do. I’m going to make a conscious effort to make it be at healthy places like Teaism, sushi, etc.
